Support for member biologists so they can work and participate in English projects.
Project details
Working professionals as well as students and researchers often find themselves in an uncomfortable position concerning English. They may be at the height of their career, but without speaking English fluently, they do not have easy access to European projects or international cooperation. Most positions require collaborative meetings in which English is the official language. This offer for the Colegios Oficiales de Biólogos had the short term goal of boosting the participants confidence in English Communication, while giving long term, achievable plans. We began with a free 6 hour course in which he bases were taught, with an additional 6 hour practice schedule. Every member also has a special discount on training plans, in collaboration with the Colegios Oficiales.

Workshops and ad hoc training for the current needs of biologists. In short, it mostly meant empowering students to feel confident communicating in English, but with an extra touch to include an environment for biologists.
Information – Communication is Key
We worked with each Colegio Oficial separately, sometimes providing them with the complete ad, sometimes they created it on their own. Our course was included in the monthly newsletter sent out to all of the members, and each individual person could sign up on their own, ask for more information, or, in some cases, sign up through the colegio.
Now that wasn’t so difficult, was it!?
It was essential to interview each participant, to understand their specific motivations to improve their English skills, and of course to ensure that they would be placed in the perfect group for them. As part of the offer, each person was given a complete and accurate report on their English level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The process was simple, each participant was facilitated a link to programme an exact date and time that best suited them for the interview.
Ready to Speak in Public
The workshops were a success. Not only did everybody get the chance to talk, but also to meet other professionals and find encouragement through their experience. It was a sort of fun, English networking/learning/practice environment.
